Harvest
This coming Sunday we will be celebrating Harvest during our all-age service.
I wanted to write you a poem or two to help us think about what harvest means to us today.
It is a bit about food and all the fruit and vegetables we can pick and enjoy at this time of year. But, because most of us don't grow all of our food any more, it is also a chance to be thankful for all the good things we enjoy in our lives.
Thankfulness
What are you thankful for?
It could be your family and the extra time you've had to spend with them this year.
It could be that you are healthy and fit and are able to use that to help others.
Maybe it is the place you live, or the community you are part of, or the beauty of our earth and universe. Even in the hard times we should try to be thankful for what God has given us. This isn't always easy but can mean that we become more aware of the goodness of God, instead of the problems of earth.
Hebrews 13:15
15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.
Activities
Blessings Jar - This is an activity I have suggested before but is a good way to help us remember the good things that would normally get lost in the busy lives we all live.
Find an empty jar and remove any labels. Decorate in whatever way you like. Add slips of paper which have good moments written on them and plan a date to read them and remember.
Harvest collecting - Maybe you are not the sort of people who have grown your own food, but you could pick some blackberries, collect conkers or try and spot different colour berries. It helps us to connect with our world and see the wonder of nature and the God who created it.
Harvest Poems - Perhaps I have inspired you to have a go at your own poetry, or you could just print mine out and colour in the pictures.
I hope that there are lots of things that you have to be thankful for, and that thinking about them will remind you of more.
God bless you and your families.
