Light Of The World

You are maybe familiar with Jesus being called Light of the World, particularly at this time of year as we approach Halloween and Christmas.
He brings hope and love from God to the people of the world and shows them the way back to a relationship with the Father.

But here it is Jesus teaching the disciples and people that they are light to the world as well. If you have something special and important you want to show people, not hide it away.

We have a hope that God cares about the world and about each of us and we should be ready to share that hope.

No Hiding

It should be obvious in your every day life that you are a follower of Jesus. If you are a Christian and no-one knows then you aren't sharing the gospel and good news.

That sharing doesn't always involve words but can be shown in your actions and attitudes. You should stand out from the crowd by the love and care you exhibit. Maybe you choose to walk away and not join in the gossip, or you stand alongside someone being bullied. Perhaps you will make sure you are honest with how much work you are doing and put your all into it.

Seen from space

When you see a night time image of the earth from space you can see the lights shining brightly in the dark. We should shine out, like a town on a hillside, visible for miles around.

This can be scary but you aren't alone. Fellow Christians are standing with you all around the world. Jesus knew what it was like to stand up against people who disagreed with him even though he knew the risks.

Let's stand as a visible Light in our world.

Activities


  • Hide and Seek in the dark.  Hide around your house in the dark. The seeker will have a torch to help them find you. God seeks His sheep, even in the darkest places.
  • Fire work painting. Use an old washing up brush or toothbrush to create fire work images on dark paper. Use bright colours and glitter. Celebrate being light.
  • Find pictures online of the earth's lights.
  • Carve a pumpkin with a cross and think about Jesus and what He did to save the world and show us His light.

Prayer

Lord Jesus

May we be the light of the world today and not hide the good thing we have found in you. Bless each of us and give us your strength to stand when we should and show your love.

Amen

Creative Creator

Creator God is amazing, with an amazing imagination. I love reading and I love it when an author creates a whole world, like Middle Earth or Narnia. The imagination it must take is incredible. So what does it take to imagine a whole universe and then, not just write about it, but actually make it exist. WOW! Created If God is the creator, we are the created, made by Him. And He knows us inside out because we are special to Him. Have you made anything special? A picture or painting, maybe a pot made of clay or something with Lego. You want to keep your special thing safe and make sure it doesn't get broken. God wants us to be safe and doesn't want us hurt or broken. Creative We have a gift from God and that is creativity. Love is ...

Colouring Page God's Love God's love for us is all of the things listed in the chapter from 1 Corinthians that I have used for the colouring page this week. This is an amazing list and teaches us how we should try to love too. Are you always patient and kind with those you love? Do you make sure you keep no record of wrongs? This is a real challenge for us and we cannot do it alone. Help along the way God has offered us help to get through our lives. He showed this love through Jesus, His Son, and He sent the Holy Spirit to guide and fill us each day. This is how we love properly. Not in our own power but in God's. Symbols of love Hearts One very familiar symbol of love is the heart 💖 and there are loads of fun ways to create them. We drew hearts and the word LOVE with white candles on white card.
