Let there be love

All You Do

What do you do each day? Get up, use the bathroom, have breakfast, go to school or work . . . . The list could go on forever to say everything that everyone does.

Do you ever think about your attitude to what you do? Are you sometimes grumpy or selfish? It is your turn first in the bathroom, or it is your favourite cereal so you're going to finish it, even if your brother also likes it!

Be Done In Love

Maybe we could all find a bit more love in the way we do things. We are taught by Jesus to put other's needs before our own, to care for someone else before ourselves.

Do you do that?

Whether we're at home, work, school or out and about there are ways that we can do all that we do in love.

Are you good at maths but your friend isn't. Could you offer to help them out?
Have you got a skill that it would be great to teach others?
Could you do a bit more around the house, or at least do your chores without the grumbling and moaning?
Were you respectful to the shop worker or teacher?

Think before you act or speak

One way to check out that you are being loving is to just take a moment before you act or speak. Be careful of your words and attitudes and don't just react with fire.
Find a better way, or word, or time.

Activities

  • Choose a way to show more love today. Wash up, read to a sibling, don't be grumpy. . . there are so many different ideas and these will be special to you.
  • Make yourself a Love Heart Reminder to be more loving today. Something you can carry in a pocket or put in a place as a reminder. Make it from whatever you can find.
  • Dance and sing and be happy. Find your favourite worship or praise song and connect with God to help you find His love in your life.

Prayer

Father in heaven,

We pray that we can follow Jesus example and do everything in love. Give us the love, peace and joy in our hearts that will overflow into our lives and to other people.
In your name, Lord Jesus

Amen

Light Of The World

Light Of The World You are maybe familiar with Jesus being called Light of the World, particularly at this time of year as we approach Halloween and Christmas. He brings hope and love from God to the people of the world and shows them the way back to a relationship with the Father. But here it is Jesus teaching the disciples and people that they are light to the world as well. If you have something special and important you want to show people, not hide it away. We have a hope that God cares about the world and about each of us and we should be ready to share that hope. No Hiding It should be obvious in your every day life that you are a follower of Jesus. If you are a Christian and no-one knows then you aren't sharing the gospel and good news. That sharing doesn't always involve words but can be shown in your actions and attitudes. You should stand out from the crowd by the love and care you exhibit. Maybe you choose to walk away and not join in the gossip, or you stand alongs...

Hope to hang on to

What is hope? The dictionaries say that Hope is a feeling and expectation that a particular thing is going to happen. Sometimes hope is assured and sometimes unlikely.  Maybe, you hope your favourite team will win a match. That can be likely to happen or you could be rather optimistic!  An older definition includes the idea of trust as well. So what is the hope that we have as Christians? Firstly, that if God has promised it, it will happen. We see God's promises in the bible in stories like Noah, Abraham and Joseph. Their lives included promises for the future, some of which we see come true in their lives and the lives of their families.                                                     🚢                 ✰                🌈 But our biggest Hope is rooted in Jes...

Harvest and thankfulness

Harvest This coming Sunday we will be celebrating Harvest during our all-age service. I wanted to write you a poem or two to help us think about what harvest means to us today. It is a bit about food and all the fruit and vegetables we can pick and enjoy at this time of year. But, because most of us don't grow all of our food any more, it is also a chance to be thankful for all the good things we enjoy in our lives. Thankfulness What are you thankful for? It could be your family and the extra time you've had to spend with them this year. It could be that you are healthy and fit and are able to use that to help others. Maybe it is the place you live, or the community you are part of, or the beauty of our earth and universe. Even in the hard times we should try to be thankful for what God has given us. This isn't always easy but can mean that we become more aware of the goodness of God, instead of the problems of earth. Hebrews 13:15 15   Through Jesus, therefore, let u...
